JUNE 22 @ 12:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Did you know that Old Rag in Shenandoah is rated one of the best 25 hikes in the world? Join River Rock Outfitters this weekend to check that off your bucket list!!

If you have not had a chance to do a sunrise hike with us then definitely make this your year!

Hike in a glance: this is 9.2 mile hike, in the dark, along the trail head on paved road, a wooded trail, and on ridge-line towards the summit. This trail provides experience on advancing elevation, changes in terrain, and rock scrambling.

River Rock Outfitter will be supplying coffee at the top of the Old Rag Summit!  Just bring your reusable mug, a snack (breakfast) and watch the sunrise on top of Old Rag!

We will provide you with additional logistics and gear requirements once you register.  We require that you at least have:

  • 2-3L of water (an additional liter left in your car for the ride home)

  • Headlamp

  • Sturdy hiking shoes or boots (no tennis shoes or open toed shoes)

  • Small day pack to hold a snack, mug for coffee, small first aid kit, and an extra layer

  • Highly recommended (but not necessary): trekking poles

We will meet at the Old Rag Parking Lot around 2:30 AM (subject to change). Parking is limited so carpooling is suggested. If you have a Shenandoah pass then parking is free.  If you do not have a pass then the charge is $35.00 (includes a SNP pass for one week of entry). Please consider donating a few dollars to our car pooling volunteers to cover park and/or gas expenses.

Keep in mind: This is a technical hike with increased elevation and rock scrambling. We suggest hiking this trail during the day prior to attempting the Sunrise Sip. Our experienced Guide (American Hiking Guide Association Certified/Wilderness First Responder) will be on the trail, but it may take rescue personnel an hour or more before they reach us in an extreme emergency situation. This is not a pet or stroller friendly trail.

Spacing is limited to 24 people. You MUST purchase your ticket online or in store (540-372-8708) to reserve your spot.

Refund Policy Note: We are excited to get you outside and enjoying our courses and events. Each activity is tailored made for your specific needs and goals for the sport. Since we offer private/small group instruction and special events, our guides’ schedules are busy. Please be considerate of their schedule and make sure you arrive for your activity on time and prepared. Payments are non-refundable. If the activity is cancelled due to weather, then we will do all we can to schedule a rain date. Your guide will work with you to reschedule your activity or, if available, provide a reasonable alternative. If you must cancel for any reason, then notify your guide immediately. We will work with you to reschedule if a cancellation is made at least 48 hours in advance of your scheduled activity.
